Is there an eco-friendly alternative to foam when upholstering furniture?

I just can’t stand that our furniture, clothing and homes are filled with toxic substances and chemicals. I’ve heard that many manufactured products that you can find in our homes emit a toxic gas. Is there an alternative to foam that I can use for support when I re-upholster furniture? Something that will biodegrade? I know hay and horse hair were used back in the day, but that isn’t very cheap right now. Any other suggestions?

Any answers are greatly appreciated! Also, if you have a good “search phrase” I can google, that will be appreciated also! Thank you!
