stay at home moms unite?

Monday, June 29th, 2009
mom0f2 asked:

As i get a little older and wiser (hopefully) i have begun to pay attention to our government and feel that as a stay at home mom and a woman i am not being represented in government at any level. I believe that if the SAHM of the country not only voted but ran for office we would be better off as a country. I would like to find a candidate who shares my values and would give me a voice in washington. Here is what i would look for in a representative, young , mom, pro-life (except when an immediate threat to the mothers life), Nationalize healthcare or at the very least offer affordable healthcare and make private insurance compete or go under. Thats it for now but please let me know what you think. Anyone agree ? Maybe someone feels the same way and is interested in running for office? Also i think instead of prolonging an already failing system we should have used the money to support eco friendly businesses like solar energy, electric cars and so on. If the banks and insurance companies insist on giving huge bonuses to their ceo’s let them go under. Lets start from scratch if thats what it takes. The government is putting a bandaid where a turnoquet is needed. Give all those hard working people jobs in industries that have a futur and can help us eliminate our dependency on foreign oil.
Sorry i didn’t mean to exclude working moms, what i meant is that SAHM is less likely to vote and be involved in polotics. I do believe that all moms should get involved but as a SAHM i feel more disconnected then when i was a working mom.

Gave friend ad on a home for sale but she was offended. Why?

fairydancer2003 asked:

If I see something that I think a friend might like, I’ll tell them about it. A sale at their favorite store, a play that’s coming to town that they might enjoy, etc. I’m recently out of work and had to move in with relatives because I could no longer afford my apartment. I’m registered with employment agencies, go onto Craigslist and have been on several interviews. Once I start working again, I’ll get a place to live and get back on my feet.
A friend of mine is looking for a house and I saw an ad for an “eco-friendly” home that I thought might intererest her so I cut out the photo and info and gave it to her. She was extremely insulted and told me so in a passive-aggresive way. There’s only one reason I can think of why this happened. I’m recently out of work and had to move in with relatives because I could no longer afford my apartment. I’m registered with employment agencies, go onto Craigslist’s job board and have been on several interviews. Once I start working again, I’ll get a place to live and get back on my feet. Even though I’m in this situation, I still think of my friends’ interests. I believe everyone has something to offer irregardless of their current situation. It may not be money or favors but rather time and friendship. So I didn’t think it was a big deal to make suggestions even though I’m not in the greatest position myself.
Was I out of line?

What are you doing to go “Green”?

Nikki D asked:

What have you changed in your home and your life to be more eco-friendly?
Thanks!
In our house we got all new CFL light bulbs and we do save around $7-10/mo. But we just had 3 go out after being in for 1 year. And we are using a programmable thermostat to control heating/cooling costs.
We also keep our appliances unplugged when they are not being used. We recycle. I turn the water off when I brush my teeth. I wash all our clothes in cold water and air dry half our clothes. I do use my dishwasher, but I have it set to use warm water, not hot and I turned off the heated dry cycle.
I just sent several old cell phones to be recycled for free at:

Solutions for expanding awareness of Alternative systems?

Monday, June 15th, 2009
Don asked:

Most people agree that we need to do something to improve how we live and travel on this little planet to have less impact on the environment. But not everyone can go out and buy a new, latest technology, Zero Energy home…or put a Solar Panel system on their home, or buy a Hybrid Electric Car, or get their existing car Converted to all electric drive. Some people can afford it, but are not aware how to do it or who to speak to. Others want to help, but what can they do? I thought about an “ECO-NETWORK” that advocated alternatives, BUT without the scam-ripoff-phony features. No Minimum purchases, no minimum monthly points. No inverntory. Again, none of the “hooks” of pyramid scams or exploitive deceptions that some MLM’s have used to rip off people. But many people replied that was still “taking advantage” of people.
So, how do we effectively get the word out about viable alternatives, other than bombarding the media with paid advertising…which I am also personally tired of. I really thought that an Eco-Network where you got paid (commission) for sharing information when somebody bought something they wanted (but again no minimums, no fees, no “hooks”) The idea here is a grass roots, word of mouth, bottom up sharing of accurate information about viable alternatives…as opposed to the old business model of exaggerating advertising and scams and financial traps. There is enough of that crap out there, I want to do something else that helps conscientious people, helps consumers and helps alternative businesses. Win-Win-Win. Any ideas?

Ecomaniacs: Helpers? Or Whiners?

Sunday, June 14th, 2009
Yu asked:

I have been answering questions lately, and this ecomaniac is literally harassing the Environment category.

All this person has been doing is nagging people about pollution and cursing people about not being eco-friendly. This person is ignorant and closed minded, and obviously, has no idea what he/she is talking about.

Then, there are the people who ACTUALLY do something about it. They are people who set up cleaning days, recycle at home, convince people to make the decisions they want with politeness, and become highly successful. They have clearly stated the problem they want to solve, and have developed a clear solution, and actually followed it.

Now, these two people, both concerned about the environment, both trying to help, but one big difference: A talker, and an action taker.

So what would you prefer? Somebody who COMPLAINS, or someone who DOES SOMETHING ABOUT IT?

Note: This is not a place to post your political, racial, and econoic opinions. the opinions I want is what people THINK about the difference between the two.

Thank you! And have a nice day.
