1. Is it true that eco-friendly homes cut the percentage of having a cold or being sick?

2. What type of floors are best, baboo, wood, carpet, what?

3. Type of lighting; what are good lights that you can use?

4. What are good furnitures; that don’t absorb alot of dust.

5. What is a good location for having an eco-friendly (or green home) home? The city, the suburbs, a farm, near an ocean?ect..

6. Last would the payment of lighting, water, electricity, be less? Meaning would the percentage of paying be less?

We want to have built a solar/green/eco friendly home about 30 miles west of Portland, Oregon, in the country. I need an architect who is not too fancy and doesn’t overcharge, but is competent, has contacts, experienced, and good ideas for folks who choose not the mainstream but something beautiful and unique. We want the house built only to sheetrock as we want to do much of the inside/finishing work ourselves. We read Mother Earth Mag and like the back-to-basics things we see in there. We would rather have quality than quantity and love the wood/rock/metal combination with earthy tones. Budget is $200,000 max including permits, etc. Already have well, electricity, and septic on site.

Yes, Call me a tree hugger if you want. I’ve already started using Energy-saving lightbulbs around my house. What other products can I use? Where Can I buy solar panels? (And that stuff) And what else can I do? I recycle, if that helps

So I work 11 miles from home, and the last 4 miles of the trip is all uphill. In addition, No buses service the last 4 miles of the trip either. I have to be at work each day by 7:00am. I live in Huntington Beach, a suburban city in Southern California in which there is no light rail or subway to be found.

I have been riding a motorcycle to do this, but wonder if there are more effective or environmentally friendly ways? I rode my bicycle once or twice but I felt fatigued the rest of the day. I walked the last 4 miles a few times but it takes wayyy too long.
