Book XEL-Ha when we get to Mexico, or from home on-line before we go?

We are planning to go to Xel-Ha eco park while in Mexicio, but not sure if there’s any advantage to waiting until we get there to actually book it, or do it ahead of time. Same goes for golf - the guys (4 of them) want to play a round while in the Mexican Riviera. Any suggestions on the best courses to play at? We’re staying close to Playa Del Carmen. As well, how reliable/safe are the “collectivo” busses in Mexico? How much should it cost on one of those to go from Puerto Morales to Xel-Ha? How much for a cab for the same trip?
